What the cat changes
A snowcat can move a group beyond the lift network and into open glades, rolling volcanic relief, and sheltered drainages. Access still depends on visibility, snowpack, road conditions, and the operating area’s rules. A cat day is not a guarantee of untouched snow; it is a carefully managed way to reach terrain with fewer outside variables. The guide team evaluates the day before departure, then checks weather, snow stability, and the vehicle route throughout the day. Good cat skiing is measured by decisions as much as descents.
